Terms of Service

Last updated: 8 November 2026

These terms cover your purchase and use of Smartway: UK Motorway Traffic Controller ("the game"). By buying or using the game you agree to them.

Who sells the game

Orders are processed by Stripe, our online reseller and merchant of record. Stripe handles payment, receipts and sales tax such as VAT, and its own terms of sale also apply to your purchase. You can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or the other methods the checkout offers. Your licence key is shown on screen and emailed to you as soon as your payment goes through.

The game is digital content supplied straight away. By completing your purchase you agree to it being supplied immediately. You still get our 14-day money-back promise in the refund policy.

Your licence

Activation and licence checks

The game needs an internet connection to activate and checks its licence from time to time. It keeps working offline for up to 7 days between checks. See our privacy policy for what the check sends.

Refunds

See our refund policy.

The game is a simulation

Smartway is entertainment. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by National Highways, any police force, fire and rescue service, ambulance service or other emergency service, and it is not training for real traffic management. The vehicles, liveries, company names, people and incidents in the game are made up. Any resemblance to real people, businesses or events is coincidence.

Map data

The roads in the game come from OpenStreetMap. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). If you'd like a copy of the road data the game uses, email us and we'll send it to you.

Other people's work

Some characters, vehicle models, voices, fonts and the game engine are made by others and used under their own licences. They're listed on our credits page and in the game's Credits screen. Those licences apply to those parts only. Everything else in Smartway is © 2026 Matt Hillyard, all rights reserved.

Playing online

When you host or join an online game, use chat or voice chat, or post a daily challenge score, be respectful to other players. Don't use offensive player names, room names or messages, and don't cheat or try to disrupt other people's games. We may remove scores or block access to online features for anyone who does. Online features rely on free third-party services, and we can't promise they'll always be available.

Liability

The game is provided as it is. We'll fix problems where we reasonably can, but we don't promise it will be free of errors. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version.
